RMU and Fredonia have qualified for the National tournament and hold the #2 and #3 spot in the CHE. RMU holds the 2-0 advantage in season play and looked to make it a perfect 3-0 to get to the finals..
A slow and sloppy first period found the Colonials up 1-0 with a Erik Manetta shot that gets by Fredonia Goalie Jay Hall. The second period would find the Colonials on a powerplay and with some help... Fredonia hooked its way into a 5-3. RMU would take advantage and score two powerplay goals as Gary Delehanty and Dan Clark find the twine behind Hall. One minute later Jeremy Martin would sneak one past Hall to give RMU a 4-0 lead. Fredonia would answer with a Powerplay goal and add a 5-5 goal to get 2 in the second. RMU wasn't done, Eric Bogden, Jeremy Martin, Jack Erath, and Broc McCroskey would all add second period goals to give RMU a 8-2 advantage with 20 minutes remaining. Erik Manetta would light the lamp again in the third and Fredonia would get one past Matt Wynn to make it a 9-3 Final.
Matt Wynn made 28 saves in the win.
Brenden Boyle lead all players with a 5 point night.

RMU meets Cal U in a 3 game final starting Friday night.

SPECIAL CHE AWARDS:

The Top CHE Goaltender award went Matt Wynn with a 6-1 Record in CHE Play.
Manager of the Year Award went to Kalynn Lavella, a well deserved award!

Congratulations to Matt, Kalynn, and team for a great season.. A 16-5-1 record is a strong showing, but the real season starts at regionals Feb 18th and 19th. RMU will face the #10 ranked Atlantic team in a match to go to Nationals. RMU will again be looking to play their way into Nationals and make a mark as one of the top teams in the country.
CHE could come down to a re-match from last season. RMU will have to knock out FSU again to get to the finals, but after a strong showing at Steel Hall.... The way rankings fell, RMU had two legit #1 seeds in their pool. A wake up call to the dance was given Wednesday morning as RMU met eventual Champions Saginaw Valley State. The champs started early with 5 goals in the first period and never looked back!
Thursday would bring a new day and a better game... but same results. #1 Ranked College of the Canyons jumped on the Colonials with 2 first period goals. RMU struck back with a PP goal from Jeremy Martin. But the end of 2 periods would find RMU down 5-2. Goals from Erath and Faulkner would help the cause but College of the Canyons wasn't done as they added 2 even strenght goals to win 7-4.
Friday became Senior night at the Nationals! John Dominick with the start in goal in his last game in a RMU uniform, made a lasting impression....
A glove save in the 1st period to keep Florida off the board is a save that ALL RMU players and fans will remember. RMU hit the score board first with a PP goal from Dan Clark. The first period would end with RMU up 1-0 over the Gators. The second period would be a different story, the Gators jumped on the Colonials with a quick PP goal to bring the score to a deadlock... Rmu and the Gators would exchange the next few goals to bring the score to 3-3 after 2. The gators had enough and scored 5 straight goals in the third, even with the never quit style of the Colonials the 3 goals in a row were not enough to put the Gators away. RMU falls 8-6 in their NATIONAL DANCE DEBUT....

Success or Bust?

"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat."
T. What is the campus like? What are the students like?

We would be happy to answer those questions for you. But why not check out Robert Morris University yourself? Whether you prefer formal one-on-one visits or casual open houses, we've got a program for you.

ONE-ON-ONE VISITS:

Visit our campus in Moon Township to talk with an admissions counselor, sit in on a class, meet with a professor and enjoy a student-guided tour. Talk one-on-one with faculty and staff about majors, internships and co-op programs. Within two years of starting the program, RMU won their first WPCHA championship in 1998. After two runner-up finishes and one more WPCHA title over the next three seasons, the Colonials decided to go independent while joining the D-III ranks of the ACHA. The move proved to be fortuitous. The Colonials finished that season ranked number one in the country after defeating defending champion University of Wyoming in the ACHA D-III national championship game in Atlanta, Georgia. The rest, they say, is history. The win caught the attention of university officials, and within two years Robert Morris University became the first western Pennsylvanian school to add NCAA D-I men’s hockey. With more and more student athletes coming to RMU for a top-notch education and to play hockey, it was decided by the then-current coaching staff to move the D-III team up to the D-I club level and to create another team at the D-III level. To date, RMU remains one of the few schools in the country to have men’s hockey teams competing at the NCAA D-I, D-I club, and D-III club levels, all of which are successful.

About our D-III Club Team

Our D-III club team competes at the ACHA D-III level, where we’re a member of the College Hockey East league, comprised of the University of Pittsburgh, California University of PA, Fredonia University, Penn State Altoona and Berhend, St. Vincent College, West Virginia University, Pittsburgh University of Johnstown and Indiana University of PA.

We are also one of a handful of ACHA D-I, D-III programs with an NCAA D-I team at the same school. We are also looking into a D-II team next season. Both club teams are fortunate to have a very good relationship with NCAA head coach Derek Schooley, and since the inception of the NCAA program the D-I team has had three players move up to join his team (Shawn Bakke, Joey Olsen, Karac Davis) and numerous others invited to his month-long training camp.

WHY PLAY FOR RMU?

* RMU Island Sports Center (32-acre multipurpose facility owned bythe university)
* Three ice rinks, one inline rink
* On the ice 3-4 days a week (two practices, two games)
* Practices on Wednesdays and Thursdays
* Weight-training facility at the rink
* Weight training three days a week with Scott Umberger (personaltrainer and cousin of current NHLer R.J.
